Explain the garment result

State the garment, silhouette, season and construction. Describe the appearance, drape or support you need. A buyer who does not know a technical construction can still provide useful context. Mark uncertain terms as questions so the supplier is not asked to reproduce an incorrectly labelled reference.

Separate family and construction

A commercial fabric-family name may describe appearance or application. Ask for the actual woven structure and yarn or production description where it matters. Woollen and worsted should not be assigned from a photograph alone. Record the proposed item's specification rather than expanding a category name into technical facts.

Ask what creates the surface

Explain whether nap, loops, colour mixing or another surface feature is essential. Ask how the candidate differs from the reference and whether its finish is part of the quoted item. A visually similar finish on a different base can produce different trial observations.

Connect dimensions to the item

Ask for composition, weight unit, width basis and finish under one reference and revision. If different files give conflicting values, request an aligned current specification. Do not combine convenient values from separate products into one apparent candidate description.

Use physical and making review

Compare the candidate's handle and appearance in person and have the maker trial relevant cutting, seams and pressing. Keep observation conditions and sample identity. A technical description assists selection but does not replace review of the garment result your project actually needs.

Request alternatives clearly

If the requested construction cannot be confirmed, ask what candidate could address the intended use and what would change. Label the alternative in the brief and quotation. Have the relevant team decide whether its differences are acceptable before using it as a like-for-like commercial comparison.

Your construction enquiry

Illustration: a buyer has a soft trouser reference but its yarn route is unknown. They describe the intended drape and ask for candidate specifications and trial cloth. Use the questions below to connect construction details to decisions rather than requesting a long technical description with no project purpose.
